The client-therapist fit is so important, so let me tell you some about me:

I am a white transmasculine psychologist from Texas. I’m also a singlet, able-bodied, and was raised with socioeconomic advantages that opened many doors for me. My Irish, English, and German ancestors colonized native land in North Carolina and Texas. I was born during the late 1970’s and am very proud to be part of Generation X. I was assigned female at birth, but around age 3 my gender identity began to present itself in a masculine way. I was a 1980’s tomboy with long stringy hair, clad in bright, mismatched clothing and high top sneakers. An authentic version of myself. That abruptly changed in the sixth grade when I started at a christian fundamentalist private school that taught me more about hate than loving others. It didn’t take long for me to believe I wasn’t deserving of love.

After high school, I attended Duke University planning to major in English and history, but my first psychology course quickly evolved into a major. I also came out as queer in college, but was still suppressing my truest self. I graduated in 2001 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology, a minor in criminology, and a certificate in the study of sexualities in hand. I moved to New York City that August and obtained a master’s in psychology at New York University in 2004 before moving on to Los Angeles, where I earned a doctorate in clinical psychology at Pepperdine University in 2009. That all sounds elitist and abound with unearned privilege, doesn’t it? My unearned privilege and parents’ generational wealth afforded me these opportunities, not any sort of exceptionalism on my part.

I completed an APA accredited pre-doctoral internship at the Texas Tech University Student Counseling Services (2008-2009), where I completed an optional rotation in sexual/gender identity issues. After that, I completed a post-doctoral fellowship at The University of Texas at San Antonio Student Counseling Services (2009-2010). In April 2010, I introduced my true self as transgender to safe allies and began masculinizing hormone replacement therapy (HRT). I have continued medically transitioning since.

From 2010 and 2015, I worked as a staff psychologist at university student counseling centers in North Carolina and Texas. I especially enjoy working with young adults but felt restricted by the short-term model of therapy. I also wanted to be an agent of change, but often felt more like a token in the workplace. I opened my private practice in 2015, where I work in alignment with my personal values related to social justice, client autonomy, and and my own self-expression.

Outside of work, you’ll find me eating tacos; playing with my 2 cats and 2 dogs; working out; listening to podcasts; having video dates with my girlfriend and friends from around the country; putting together Lego; getting tattooed/hole punched; and attempting to write non-fiction. Since 2022, I have volunteered my time with the Houston Psychological Association as a Board Member and the DEI Committee Chairperson.
